I'm not clear exactly how choosing to place the engines in the wing roots "frees up space in the nose" and "allows the cockpit to be placed forward of the wing" and "makes space for a tricycle landing gear". Any of the other typical jet engine location schemes would not have altered any of those things. You can place the cockpit ahead of the wing equally well with under winh engines, or rear mounted engines, or engines under the fuselage. A nose intake might marginally effect the space available but doesn't prevent a forward located cockpit nor a nose gear. The only scheme that would have possibly prevented either thing is a nose mounted engine such as the Soviets used in the Yak-15, that was mostly dictated by the fact they were trying to adopt the existing Yak-9 into a jet aircraft.

The statement is true if you say "the use of jet engines instead of a propeller engine gave them more space for a tricycle gear and a forward located cockpit for better visibility", but the specific selection of the configurarion doesn't change anything. 2600:1000:B162:3A61:0:62:DA3A:DB01 (talk) 08:06, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A missed key point from the source was that the engines were behind the center of gravity, a long fuselage nose was used filled with the cockpit, nose landing gear and guns to balance the aircraft. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 08:58, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
